A New Journey

I have been working on this weight thing for years now. My journey started about six years ago after a “devastating” break up. I stood a whole 5’2″ and weighed in at 175 pounds. I could have blamed it on anything. Instead, I decided to take ownership of my body. I researched illnesses that ran in my family like diabetes, asthma, and hypertension and moved into action.

Of course, like most people new to the game, I needed help. I got a training package at one of those big national chain gyms, and boy did I get duped!! Long story short, I canceled the program and found a trainer who would work on a more individualized plan. For months I was lifting heavy weights and eating ground chicken, green beans, and brown rice. It worked! I lost 30 pounds in 4 months, but man was it restrictive!

It wasn’t until two-ish years ago that I realized it is just as much how you treat your body as it is how you fuel the body. The food you take in is imperative, quality in quantity. I don’t think it should be an “over-under” thing as you should just always, as best you can, give your body great foods and nutrients, all the time, at every meal. It’s also important to listen to your body when it aches or makes sounds when you move. Considering how you talk to yourself and your general mental and emotional health is just as important.

In my commitment to being a Wandering Wellness Warrior, I began studying for my nutrition and personal training certification!! My journey has taught me there are so many factors other than lifting, cardio, and food intake. A real and permanent change involves the mind, body, and soul. My goal is to understand these areas better and provide resources and programs that truly matter and truly work!

I encourage you to share your story and follow mine! Let’s hold each other accountable!
